Chapter 1: Initiation!

Part 1: "Team Gibbs"


"Gibbs!!! Gibbs where are you?" I shrieked with joy as I scuttled through the large crowd of people that just exited the building behind me. I looked down for a second and ran into something big and hard. "Ow... Hey! Watch where you're go- GIBBS!!!" I hollered.
"You don't have to yell I'm right here." Gibbs' voice had a cheerful tone as he hugged me.
"Sorry but you know how I am when I'm excited." I replied hugging the tall grey haired man. "I'm just really psyched to have graduated a year early."
"I know me too, now how about I take to to lunch then I can bring you to the base to finally meet my team that you hopefuly will be on." He released me from his hugged and grabbed my hand.
I gasped in excitement as we walked to his car and got in. "Now Gibbs..." I said turning to him from the passenger seat. "I know how you drive and I just want to say that... that better not change just because I'm in here okay? I love fast cars and their crazy drivers so go for it."
All Gibbs did was stare at me for a second with a stern frown, but it soon turned into a smile as he pulled away from the college.

"Do I really have to keep this blindfold on?"
"Not until we are inside."
"But Gibbs..."
"No "but's" Kahly I said keep it on!"
"Fine." I heard a soft ding and new we were getting on an elevator. When the second ding came my skin crawled and I knew I was finally going to meet the famous "Team Gibbs" that Gibbs always talked about over the phone.
"Boss? Who's this?" A womens voice sounded to my left.
"This, team, is Kahly Davis. She's a very good friend of mine and she just graduated college and will be coming to work here as soon as I take her to see the director." Gibbs announced. "Now where is DiNozzo?"
"Here, Boss." a second voice came from behind, this time it was a man's.
"Boss? Who's this?" yet one more voice announced itself present in front of me.
I could feel my cheeks begin to turn red as Gibbs introduced me to his team.
"This is Kahly Davis. She just graduated college and is coming here to begin work soon. She's a friend of mine I met a couple years ago when I went to the college. Get to know her well, she may become a teammate."
Gibbs removed the blindfold and I faced the three people in front of me. I smiled weekly and waved a shaky hand at them. "H-hi."
"Gibbs I thought you had to be 18 to work here?" The man, I presumed to be McGee, spoke up.
As soon as I heard that I went off like a bomb.
"I AM 22 YEARS OLD FOR YOU'RE INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Wooohooo! McGeek, respect a women not for her looks but what's on the inside." DiNozzo chuckled. He took a few steps closer to me and lifted my chin so I could stare at his face. "I'm sorry if he offended you miss but maybe I could make it up to you with a nice dinner?"
"Dinozzo what did I te-"
I cut Gibbs short by flinging my right fist into Dinozzo's gut, sending him about ten feet across the room. He lay there for a minute then sat up slowly. Holding his gut, DiNozzo rose and staggered over to Gibbs while keeping enough distance from me.
"B-boss," He choked out in a horse tone. "H-how in t-the world is t-that thing THAT s-strong?"
"I was going to remind you not to underestimate people, DiNozzo." Gibbs chuckled.
"Hey Tony? How's your beer belly doing?" The women, guessing to be Kate, giggled.
I turned to face the brown-haired women. "Hi there Kate!" I smiled and held my hand out to her so she could shake it.
She took my hand in hers and smiled back. "So you know me do you? Gibbs must talk about us over the phone."
"Yeah he always mentions you and Tony bickering and the funny pranks that Tony plays on Tim but he has let slip a few good things about the three of you. Miss Kate is always helpful, Tim is really smart, and DiNozzo can cheer anyone up." I giggled.
"I'd prefer if you call me Kate and just that." She smiled back.
"A-and I prefer to be called McGeek I-I-I mean McGee, thanks." McGee stuttered, holding out his own hand.
"Don't worry McGee I won't hurt you if you don't scare me or invade my personal space... I'll kill you." I smiled sweetly at him. "I'm just kidding McGee I'm sorry for scaring you."
Gibbs chuckled and patted my head as if to say "let's go to the Director to get you registered for a job." I nodded in agreement and I released McGee from my grip and followed Gibbs towards that stairs.
It took us a few minutes to get to the office, but we made it in a timely manner and I picked up the papers to sign up for my job.
"You nearly finished?" Gibbs poked his head into the office to check up on me.
"Just got done!" I replied plopping the papers on the secretary's desk and exiting the room.
"Good because I have to take you a couple more places here." He said taking my hand.

As the elevator door open I heard some heavy metal death rock coming from ahead. "Oooh I like this band."
Gibbs just smiled and walked on still holding my hand.
"Gibbs! Why are you here? I haven't found anything on Ari." Abby's voice sounded from her lab.
"Abby? ABBY!!!!!!!!!!!" I shrieked, running into the lab to greet my Gothic friend.
"Kahly? Is that you?!?" She rose form her chair and ran up to me, hugging me instantly. "Ooooh it's been way to long! How have you been? Why are you here?"
"I graduated and I should be working here soon! I have filled out all the papers already and all I have to do is wait." I said happily.
"Well time is running out Kahly, you can see Abby more when you get the job." Gibbs said breaking up our little reunion.
"Okay. Well bye Abby, I'll see you soon!"
"Bye!" She replied.

The elevator door opened and I walked out with Gibbs. I had gotten used to the occasional ding as the doors opened and closed.
Gibbs lead me down a long hallway and then into a room with two tables and lots of sharp tools.
"Is this where..?"
"Yup."
"DUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I called out smiling again.
"Gibbs? Is that you? Are you sick? Your voice sounds rather high for someone of your stature." Ducky came waltzing around the corner with Palmer on his heels. "Oh Kahly! It's you! Why have you made the trip here? Have you graduated?"
"Yup!" I announced proudly. "And I should be getting my job here very soon."
"But you graduated a year early! How is that?"
"All my teacher's said I was excelling so much that they might as well send me a year ahead and then I graduated." I giggled."
"Ah I see. Well, good for you my dear." He chuckled, pulling me into a big hug.
"H-hi there Miss Davis." Palmer piped up and he held his hand out for me to shake.
"Nice to finally meet you Palmer and you can call me Kahly it's fine." I shook his hand then let go to be polite and not shake for too long. "Well it's been a long day today I think I should go find a nice hotel to stay in until I find a good apartment." I said giving Ducky one last hug.
"Nonsense, you will be staying at my house for now." Gibbs implied and before I could argue he continued. "Besides I have the extra space and all your stuff is there anyway. So you are staying with me."
"Fine." I replied and I gave him a big, huge hug.



Part 2: Till Death get's my neck.



"Kahly, wake up. I'm off to work. Do you wanna come? You have time to get ready before I leave."
I looked up and blinked to see Gibbs leaning over me. I had just realized that today was my first day being free from college and had a job in waiting. Yesterday I had planned to go shopping for a new wardrobe so I could be fit with work but now I change my mind. I want to go to work with Gibbs. I could be like a "Take your daughter to work day" like wheb I was younger but with Gibbs instead of my Step-father. "Yeah sure!" I replied quickly getting up and heading to the shower.
By the time I was out Gibbs was in his car. I quickly grabbed my cell phone and my bag and raced to his car.
"I hope I'm not tearing up any of your plans am I?" Gibbs looked at me sternly for a second then smiled. "You want to see what work is like for the real deal don't you?"
"You know me like the back of your hand, and speaking of your hand... Do I get to see the famous Gibbs slap that DiNozzo always complained I mean delightfully talked bad things about?"
"We'll see but it's a most definite yes."
"Awesome."
When we finally reached the base my skin was crawling. I kept asking myself to stay calm but I just couldn't. I was spacing out so much I didn't notice Gibbs had pulled me through the elevator just in time and I tripped over my feet falling to the ground.
"Watch it!" Someone caught me just in time before I made a huge face plant into the carpet.
"McGee!" I pipped and I hugged him tightly.
"Yeah uhhh why are you here again?"
"She came with me to see what a day at work was like." Gibbs stepped over to McGee and stared at him.
"Sorry, Boss." He uttered as he accepted my hug.
"Atta boy." Gibbs smirked.
"Getting along well I see Probe?"
"Tony!" I was hugging Tony in a blink of the eye.
"I clearly see who she likes better so back off ProbEE!"
I heard a loud smack and looked up to see Tony rubbing the back of his head.
"Rule number 12 Tony, "Never date a coworker" remember?" Gibbs implied as he sat down at his desk.
Kate walked up just in time to witness the whole ordeal.
"Hey Kate!" I greeted as I pulled her into a soft hug.
"Morning to you too! Having fun with your observation day?"
"How did you know I was here observing?" I looked at her in awe.
"Gibbs is usually a little earlier then this so I guessed he was waiting for you to get ready so you could come to work with him." She said with a smile.
"Oh well I was won-" I was cut off early by Gibbs' strong voice as he made an announcement.
"Dead Marine at the port, gear up. Kahly, start up the truck." I looked at him for a second then ran off to start the truck up.
I easily found where the truck was parked and hopped in. I Put the key in and turned on the vehicle. Checking the time on my cell phone I realized that I had already been at the base for 45 minutes and it was nearing 10:00. I jumped when I heard the door open from my right.
"Hey Kahly, this is neat'o. I mean Gibbs lettin' you drive and all."
"Oh hey Tony, yeah I'm a little surprised myself. I don't even work here and he's got me working." I laughed along with Tony for a minute before stopping and rubbing my head. I muttered in pain for a second.
"Hey are you okay?" Tony asked as Gibbs walked up.
"Kahly?! What's wrong are you hurt?" Gibbs pushed Tony aside and felt my forehead.
"I'm fine Gibbs, just a little headache. I've been getting them since I was eight but I don't know why I don't remember anything from when I was born to when I was eight. I don't even know my real birth parents. I just want to remember what happened all those years ago and to find my parents but it's not big deal we have to get going." I said wondering out loud about my past.
"Oh okay then." He said sitting next to DiNozzo.
"Boss where are..?"
"They're taking my car I wanted to see how Kahly drives this thing." Gibbs had cut Tony off before he could finish.
"Ok I need to know the address please." I said pulling out my phone.
As Gibbs told me the address I typed it into my phones GPS system and pulled out of the parking space.
I easily reached 60 on the highway and was zigzagging through traffic with no hesitation. I noticed that Gibbs looked rather impressed of my skills but Tony was holding on for dear life.
"DiNozzo, you're not going to die now let go of my leg before you snap it."
"Sorry, Boss"
I giggled and sped up a little bit. My phone's GPS beeped three times then a mans voice told me to take the next exit and I did so. Within a short time we were at the port and I parked the truck where all the police men guided me too. I thought it was a bit far from the body but I guess Gibbs knows best because he didn't argue with the officers.
"Alright let's go come on the both of you." Gibbs stated as he got out of the truck.
"Why me?" I pondered, but I ended up wanting to go anyway.

"Boss, we are here." Kate's voice came a minute after we got to the body and I figured McGee drove.
"Okay help me bag this will ya?"
"Right." she went to pick up a bag but could not find them. "Gibbs where are the bags?"
"They should be right over there." Gibbs pointed to where a pile of bag had been. But when Kate went and looked she discovered they had been blown into the water.
"Uuuuuh Giibs? The bags are in the water." Kate informed the aged man.
Gibbs automatically glared at Tony. "DiNozzo remind me to smack you later."
"Right boss." He sighed.
"I can run back and get more." I offered without thinking.
"That would be great!" Gibbs agreed.
I immediately went off into the direction of the truck at a break neck speed. I opened the back of the truck and pulled out a pair of latex gloves and a small load of evidence bags. After closing the doors I started heading back to where the rest of "Team Gibbs" was when I felt a weird feeling like I was being watched. A second later I heard screams and gun fire. We were under attack! I went to reach for my gun but remembered I forgot to get one registered in my name.
"KAHLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I turned towards where my name was being called and I saw Tony coming up. Suddenly a loud crack split the air. I knew that sound. It was a sniper. At first I though Tony was in danger but when I opened my mouth a sharp pain infiltrated my shoulder. I let out a blood curdling screech, dropping the evidence bags and they fluttered in every direction. I felt the life drain out of my body as I fell motionless to the hard pavement. The last sight I had before I died was Tony's horrified face, Kate's tears, McGee's wide eyes, and Gibbs' terrified expression as I slowly died in his arms.



Part 3: Funeral for two?



"She's not going to die." Gibbs huffed. More shots rang out and Gibbs picked me up. "McGee, take her to my car and get out of here. Me, Tony, and Kate are going to go to the roof of the building to find Ari."
"But Boss, how do you know it's Ari?" McGee asked as he took me into his arms.
"The bullet was a through in through, sniper bullet. It's Ari for sure." Gibbs scolded. "Now go!"
"Right Boss." McGee took off towards Gibbs' car at a fast jog. The weight of me kept him from running. I opened my eyes for a second and saw his terrified expression and I felt like they knew I was dead right then and there.
"Don't worry Kahly, I'm going to get you to a safe place." McGee's voice cracked in sympathy.
We got to the car but a lot of shots rang out and McGee ducked down beside the car. "Crap." He quickly carried me to the front of the car and layed me where I could not get hit again then he pulled out his gun and leaned around to shoot. I saw Kate and Gibbs out the roof then saw Tony.
"SHOOTER!" Kate hollered and she flung herself between the bullet that was hurtling at Gibbs. It hit her in the gut and the force knocked her to the ground. Before I could yell her name McGee flung around the car to get his knocked gun and an uproar of gun fire exploded into the air and without thinking I stood up and flung my body over McGee protecting him from the cascading bullets.
"Kahly what're you doing?!" McGee yelled.
"Protecting a friend." I hollered back.
I felt a bullet graze my legs and it ripped my jeans. I second later I felt a piercing pain in my side as a bullet ripped through the right side of my stomach. Blood sprayed McGee and he froze in horror. I knew McGee disliked the side of blood but he had to deal.
"K-Kahly!" He choked out in a whisper talk.
"I-I'm fine M-McGee just get your gun now while the bullets stop." I said still stating in front of him.
As McGee crawled to retrieve his gun, I walked backwards in front of him just in case the shooter continued. I felt the blood draining from my body fast and I knew I was done for. The pain was gone but now replaced with a small pulsing sensation that spread through my body.
McGee moved back in front of the car cradling his gun between his fingers. He was shaking a bit and I knew he was frightened.
"Kate..." I breathed as I remembered she got shot. I turned and saw her getting up and smiling. She was talking but I couldn't hear her all to well. I smiled up at the three friends I cared so dearly for then my blood ran cold at the sight. The smile was wiped off my face, permanently.
Kate's dead body fell backwards as a single shot split the air.
"KAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!" I screamed and Gibbs looked down to see me standing in front of McGee.
"See Boss, told you she was strong enough to pull through." Tony said but looked back at Kate.
"That you did DiNozzo, but I'm afraid the same can't be said for Kate." Gibbs stared sadly at Kate as well.
Tears filled my eyes and flowed down my cheeks. Then I felt like dying and being with Kate. It seemed my body agreed with my thought because a second later my knees hit the ground as my body began a total shut down. The blood in my body was draining fast and at any minute my heart would stop and I'd be dead. "Gibbs... I'm sorry... Tony, McGee, Kate, Abby, Ducky...." My arms were limp beside me and I could barley hear anything.
McGee sprawled up to me and looked at me still shaking. "Kahly are you okay?"
"Tell Gibbs.... goodbye and I'm.... sorry...." I said before falling forward onto the pavement.
"BOSS!!!" McGee hollered up.
"What is it McGee?"
"W-well..." McGee stepped away from my body for Gibbs to see.
His eyes widened and Tony gasped. "No this couldn't be happening." Tony said, barley whispering.
"you called the ambulance right Tony?" Gibbs said rather quietly.
"Yeah Boss but Ducky's gunna have a bigger load then the ambulance." Tony whispered back.
Ducky's truck pulled up a minute later and Palmer and Ducky both got out. "Gibbs where's the bod-"
"You mean bodies... Ducky." McGee said slowly walking up to him and Palmer.
"W-what do you mean McGee." Palmer stuttered.
"Where is Kate and Kahly?" Ducky asked gazing around McGee. "Oh dear..."
Ducky saw my motionless body laying in a gathering blood pool. My eyes stared unseeing in front of me as Ducky examined my body. Gibbs walked up behind him and watched him.
"I'm sorry Jethro but by any chance did you call an ambulance?" Ducky said looking up at the sad man.
"Tony did a little bit ago, why?" Gibbs studied Ducky's face for a minute.
"Because Kahly is still alive. But not for long." Ducky announced.
"W-what?" McGee asked amazed.
"No time for that now but where is Kate?" Ducky asked quickly.
"She is gone." Gibbs said. "Ari got her right through the head. Looks like he got Kahly twice but missed the target. Is there any chance that she'll live? Cause McGee applied pretty good pressure to her wounds and I jus-"
"No I'm afraid not my dear Jethro, she will be joining Kate shortly." Ducky said walking off to examine Kate with Palmer.
"B-boss? I'm so sorry.." McGee spoke up.
"McGee... Start up the truck I want to be alone.
As soon as McGee left Gibbs knelt down beside me and gazed into my eyes. "Kahly? What on earth were you thinking?" Gibbs turned to see an ambulance pull up and a few medical people run up to him.
"How is she." one of them asked.
"I don't know you're the doctor." Gibbs growled at them. "So that means fix her."
They wheeled a stretcher out and lifted me onto it. After pushing me back into the ambulance Tony walked up behind Gibbs.
"She all right?" He asked being able to talk again.
"Go with her now!" Gibbs said without answering him. He pushed Tony in the direction of the flashing lights.
Tony got into the back and sat down next to me. "It's alright Kahly, You're going to make it through this."
The ambulance pulled away and raced down the road. It hit a few bumps along the way but I didn't jolt one bit. Most of the bleeding had stopped but my lungs weren't working so the men that strapped me to the stretcher put a tube down my throat and squeezed a bag to help me breath.
"Is she going to be fine?" Tony asked desperately while clutching my hand in his.
"I'm sorry but we're doing our best sir." One of the men said.
As soon as the ambulance stopped in front of the hospital I was out and being wheeled to the emergency room. Tony was close behind but as soon as we got inside one of the nurses stopped him. "I'm terribly sorry sir but you are not allowed in there during the surgery."
"But I need to stay with her or my boss will freak." Tony protested but it was no use, the nurse just pointed in the waiting area and he went and sat down.
With each passing minute Tony grew more anxious. He tapped his foot then paced back and forth. He chewed his nails and bought four snacks from the vending machine and only ate half of each. All he could think about was me and Kate. Just when he was getting ready to go walk through the doors no matter what anyone said, a nurse came scuttling out to meet him.
"Mister, you can come and say your last words now." she said sadly patting his arm.
Tony's blood froze cold at the news that they could do little to nothing for me. "L-last words?" he barley managed to choke the words out.
"Yes, I'm so sorry." The little nurse hurried off before he could ask anything else.
Tony stood in the spot for a minute then took a step towards the door. He jumped when his cell phone rang and he answered the call.
"Boss?"
"I need you to come back down to the office now." Gibbs' voice was hard and flat.
"But." Tony tried to protest but instead he just hung up. He took one last look at the door and turned.



Part 4: Ziva and Ari



"Boss?" Tony said walking up to the troubled man.
Gibbs looked up then realized Tony was standing there. He just had a conversation with Kate but then found it to be utterly just a daydream. "What is it DiNozzo?"
"You needed me back here?" Tony said, eying Gibbs.
"Oh, yes I need you to go down and see if Abby has anything from the bullets and the casings we gave her." Gibbs sat up then leaned back in his chair.
"Right, Boss." Tony said scooting away to the elevator.
When Tony went back to his desk he found out he was alone.

It was then next day and Tony came into work looking rather sheepish. He was the first one there and realized Kate wouldn't be coming back. He sat down at his desk and began messing with a pencil.
"What are you doing?" a voice rang out making Tony come to from his daydream about Kate.
"Oooh uuuh..." he quickly pressed a button on his phone as he came up with a rather odd explanation. "Playing charades."
"On the phone? I've never heard it done that way. To me it sounded like phone sex."
"No, I was just day dreaming about my partner." Tony said flatly.
"Naked?" The women replied.
"No, well yes but that's not important. Who are you and why are you here?" Tony said standing up and walking over to her.
"I am Zive David and I am here looking for Gibbs, would you know where he is?" she politely inquired.
"How do you know that I'm not Gibbs?" Tony said while flashing a smile.
"Because I don't think he would be that immature." Zive replied with a smirk of her own.
"Hey that is rude." Tony scowled.
"So are you Tony." Gibbs said walking past him.
"Boss, you're here." He said watching him pass without even thwacking the back of his head.
"Yup, now where's McGee?" Gibbs sounded irritated.
"Here, Boss!" McGee said striding up to them.
"Good now I want this bastard found and put in jail now!" Gibbs growled.
"We're doing the best we can Boss." McGee piped up.
"Then do better then that!" Gibbs scowled. "I'm going to the hospital."
"Uuuum... Boss..." Tony stammered.
"What is it DiNozzo?" Gibbs snarled and walked up to Tony.
"Yesterday right before you called me to come back to the office the nurse told me I could go say my "last words" to Kahly...." he said quietly but stood his ground.
Gibbs' eyes narrowed even more then they already were. "I can tell you one thing. Kahly would never die on me before I got to say my last words!" and Gibbs was off with that last word.

"Mommy when will Daddy be home?" I said eagerly bouncing up and down.
"Not for a while sweetly now you have to promise me that you will be home in time with your sister so we can all go shopping." my mother said cheerfully.
"I promise." I nodded my head up and down.
"Now grab your backpack and get to the bus with your sister." She said handing me my lunch.
"Okay!" I grabbed my lunch and slung my backpack over my shoulder. "Sis! Time to go!" I hollered and my sis came up to me with everything she needed for school. We both walked out of the house and got on the bus. The school day was like any other normal day but something was missing. I couldn't put my finger on it. For an 8 year-old girl I was pretty smart. I knew there was something wrong with the picture I saw in front of me. Escaping the thought as not to be distracted too long I did the math problem on the board.
As soon as the school bell rang telling us to go home, I was out of my chair and on the bus with my sister.
"Okay so we are going shopping as soon as we get home." I said and my sister nodded.
Our mother was waiting for us at the car when the bus let us off.
"Let's go." she smiled.
"Yay!" I screeched with my little sister.
We got into the car and drove away.
A couple hours later we came home. When we walked into the door, mom was grabbed by a man wearing black and me and my sister were grabbed by another man in black and blue. We tried to scream but they taped our mouths shut. They tied ours hands and legs up and threw us to the ground roughly.
"Now is your time to die." the man in all black said and he placed a black case on the ground and clicked a button. A small red timer was lit on the front of it. I was smart enough to know it was a bomb and tears cascaded down my cheeks. Both men quickly left and when we heard the car drive away mom got up and directed us to the door. me and my sister both got up and hopped as fast as we could. We were at the door and I looked back just in time to see the clock hit zero and the house was blown to bits. I was sent flying through the air and my mother screamed in terror. I was knocked out and thought I was dead.

"Kahly...?" I heard a soft voice call from the distance. "Kahly... I'm here to say good bye... the doctors said you have little to no time left. I'm sorry I couldn't save you..." I felt a warm hand caress my cheek.
"does that mean I'm going to die?" I thought, terrified.
"Kahly? Doctor!" the voice called.
My eyes fluttered open and I saw Gibbs standing over me. I realized I was in the hospital and I was only dreaming a minute ago.
"Wait..." I thought. "I've never been able to remember anything from when I was eight. How is that? Could that explosion have caused me to lose my memory?" I noticed a doctor scuttle over and look at me. His expression went from sorrow to amazement when he saw I was awake.
"G-Gibbs...?" I whispered out barley able to talk. "A-am I dieing?" I asked as tears filled my eyes.
"No, you are very much alive. I knew you wouldn't die on me." he said stroking my hair.
The tears rolled down my cheeks as I stared at Gibbs' relieved face. I slowly made my way to a sitting position and asked for water.
"So did you get the guy who killed Kate?" I asked being able to talk a little more.
"No we are on it though. His name is Ari." Gibbs growled.
"He's going to pay." I hissed.
"No! You are not coming out of the hospital until they say you can." Gibbs scuffed.
"But I'm feeling a lot better then before." I protested but the look he gave me made me shut my mouth in agreement.
"You need your sleep," Gibbs said sternly still running his fingers through my hair. "I have to go but I'll be back as soon as you can come out."
"Okay," I said laying back down. "Get the guy for me Gibbs.... he did this to me and to Kate."
He stared at me for a second before turning and leaving.

Instantly another dream overcame my slumber. This time I was laying on a comfy bed in a green room.
"Kahly, sweetie. Where are you?"
"In my room mom!" I called out.
"Oh well I need your help with dinner please." my mom called.






NOT DONE
